Your Dating Name In The Dating Game

There is an art to picking your dating name

Here you are, ready to go online with photos and a profile, but you never decided what to call yourself. Yes, you need a name, an Internet dating name. Most times you will pick a combination of a name and a number. The number is needed because someone already has that catchy name you wanted like PrettyWoman. You then try to get PrettyWoman1. No luck. You end up with a name like PrettyWoman734632 which sounds more like your prison name than your dating name.

It’s best not to use your real name, so as to avoid being annoyed by a stalker or nutcase. If your name is Sue and you use Mary for Internet dating, now you know whenever you get mail addressed to Mary, it's from some guy who found you on the dating site. It's even better to avoid any personal name.

Stick with alluring, cute and light-hearted names like LovesTheShore or LovesToLaugh. These names don't reveal too much if you do it right. If you want a drinking buddy, call yourself WineAllTheTime or LovesToBooze. Remember most people already have these names, so you'll have to add numbers to most anything you want to use.

A big mistake many people make is to use certain code names that give wrong impressions. There is nothing wrong with code names, just make sure they don't send the wrong message.

The most obvious error is using your address or some lucky number as part of your dating name. While most numbers are okay, you never want to use numbers that could be interpreted as your age, especially when the numbers are "up there" making you look older than you are.

If you are 25 years old, live a 63 Summer Place and use the name 63Summer, most people are going to assume you must be 63 years old. Now we know that’s not the case, but we aren’t the ones deciding to avoid calling you based on this unfit name. Conversely, if you are 70 and add the number 46 to your dating name it may give a subtle impression that you are younger than you are. Numbers mean a lot, so be careful how they can be interpreted.

Some of you older dating women like cute names like Grammy77. What message are you trying to give, that you are a 77 year old grandmother looking to date again? If you don’t

Your dating name in the dating game | Examiner.com 7/9/16, 10:58 PM think about the image your name conveys, you could wonder why no one contacts you.

It’s the name, stupid! You wouldn’t use Stupid24 would you?

The object is to get a name that has appeal value and that makes people think you are happy and fun. Sunshine32 is a winner! The trouble is that there are so many people who figured this out years ago that they used up most of the good sunshine names. You can probably still get Sunshine8454821. While no one will think this is your age, again, they may think it’s your prisoner number, so still be careful in what you pick for your name.

HappyGirl works! I dated a happy girl and she was actually happy. Wow, truth in advertising! I also dated JumpaKumpaGoo32. Yes, she was a little too artistic for me, but you get the idea. Some names to avoid would include LithiumGal47 or LexiproLinda54. While these, too, may be truth in advertising, you don't want to be this truthful!

You guys have the same worries. If you play the bells in the Chinese orchestra and happen to specialize in the long dong gong, you may want to try this for your dating name: LongDong10, however, being that you are probably not on an international dating site, they may misconstrue your name and tell you to pull it – no, that’s not what I meant.

You can be creative but try not to misrepresent if you can help it. Like, don’t call yourself GlassHalfFull40 if you are on antidepressants and they aren’t working. No one wants to meet a depressed, sullen person walking around with a broken glass when the name infers the opposite.

You can certainly pick a lucky number and maybe you can add it to a hobby or career. Lawyer3 gets a lot of hits. Not because of the lucky number, it’s just that people like to snag professionals. Do remember, though, they may only be hooking up because they think you have money. If that worries you, try names like SanfordsSon36 or CinderellaAtMidnight28.

If you feel the need to advertise your success and wealth to get dates, go for it. You can try names like DaddyWarBucks57 or Heiress21.

Using names with sexual connotation is another way to attract dates, so Slut33, OpenVaGina56, BoneMan21 or GoodWoodInTheHood18 may do the job if that’s what you want in life.

It’s all about being creative, offering a good name without weird representations and

maintaining your privacy. That’s it for this story. Good luck in choosing a cool dating name. Signing off now.

Your friend, MrGoodBar48.
